LARA LEWIS COUNSELLING
BACP Qualified and Registered Counsellor based in Kent and online
About me

I qualified with Inter-Psyche Training Institute, one of the leading NHS counselling and psychotherapy training centres in the UK. I hold a level 6 (degree level), BACP and NHS accredited qualification in Integrative Counselling. I am a full member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and work in accordance with their ethical framework.
Alongside running my own private practice, I have worked at a university for over 10 years, supporting students with their mental health and wellbeing.
How I work
Relationships are at the heart of so much of our wellbeing. Whether you’re finding relationships difficult, noticing repeating patterns, struggling to set clear boundaries, or wanting to improve communication, I offer a supportive space to explore these challenges and work towards healthier, more fulfilling connections.
Stress, anxiety, and worry can affect everyone, whether they’re related to work, family life, life changes, or the pressures of everyday living. If your mind feels constantly busy, you’re struggling to switch off, or anxiety is holding you back, we can work together to make sense of what’s happening and for you to begin to feel more in control.
Within my practice, I have developed a focus on supporting neurodivergent adults, including people with ADHD, autism, or those who are beginning to question whether they may be neurodivergent. Many of my clients have spent years feeling frustrated and overwhelmed. Being made to feel different. Together, we work to better understand your unique way of thinking, reduce self-criticism, and find practical ways to navigate life with greater confidence and self-acceptance.
Sometimes the right words are difficult to find. Your session is your space, and I invite you to bring music, photographs, artwork or doodles if they help you to express what is going on for you. Together, we can gently explore your experiences, deepen your understanding of yourself, and work towards meaningful, lasting change at a pace that feels right for you.
Our time together won’t be about me giving you advice or trying to “fix” you. Instead, it will be about creating a safe, supportive, and trusting space where you can be yourself without fear of judgement.
“My conversations with Lara always help me find a sense of inner peace. I’m not sure how it works, but I always leave feeling calmer, lighter, and more able to manage what is going on in my life.”
“It was like Lara was inside my head, speaking my thoughts. I felt understood, and our conversations were truly helpful. She helped me to make sense of my thoughts and move forward when I felt stuck”
“Through the sessions with Lara, I’ve grown in confidence and feel much more comfortable reaching out to the people around me for support, including those who I would have hidden my feelings from in the past. That feeling of security has made such a positive difference in my life.”
Why choose counselling?
Life can be challenging at times and there can be moments when it is tricky to navigate on your own. Counselling offers a confidential space where you can talk openly, without pressure, judgement, or the feeling that you need to be able to be ‘strong’ or ‘cope’.
There is no ‘right’ reason to come to counselling. If something is affecting your mental health and wellbeing, it can be useful to explore it. Whatever your reason, counselling can help you gain insight, clarity, and a deeper understanding of yourself, enabling you to find a way forward that feels right for you.
Counselling gives you the opportunity to pause, reflect, and explore whatever is on your mind in a safe and supportive environment. Together, we can make sense of your experiences, explore what may be contributing to your difficulties, and help you move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
Whatever has brought you here, you don’t have to face it alone.
Getting Started
Taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting, and it’s natural to have questions or feel unsure about what to expect. If you’re considering counselling, we’ll begin with a free 20-minute conversation (either on the phone or online). This gives us an opportunity to talk about what has brought you to therapy, discuss any questions you may have, and explore whether working together feels right for you. During this meeting I will also explain confidentiality, and we can discuss options for a regular appointment time that suits you. This can always be reviewed and adjusted if your circumstances change. There is no obligation to continue, and you can take time to decide if you would like to go ahead.
If you choose to begin counselling together, sessions are 50 minutes long and usually take place weekly. Our first session will provide a space for you to talk about what is troubling you, what you hope to gain from therapy, and any goals you may have. There is no pressure to share everything at once — we will work at a pace that feels comfortable and manageable for you.
Many people worry about not knowing what to say or how therapy works. Please be reassured that there is no right or wrong way to approach counselling. Together, we can start by exploring what has brought you here and gently uncover whatever feels meaningful as our work progresses.
Beginning therapy is an important step, and you do not need to have everything figured out before you start. Simply bring yourself as you are, and we will take it from there, together.
